How to Cook Steak in Air Fryer?

How to Cook Steak in Air Fryer

Following my successful air fryer filet mignon, I decided to try other cuts as well. You can use any thick cut of steak for this air fryer steak recipe! The air fryer is an easy and convenient way to cook steak, whether you choose a thick or thin cut. Among my new favorite air fryer recipes, it quickly became a favorite!

Although it sounds risky at first, air frying steak works very well and is very easy to do due to the very high temperatures it reaches very quickly. Thus, the outside of the steak can be seared while the inside remains moist and tender. It is also important to note that air fryers circulate hot air around the food, meaning that it is evenly cooked on all sides.

Ingredients needed

  • Steak: You can choose any steak that fits your budget. Taste will improve with higher quality. Lean flank steak cooks faster. Air frying is best for ribeyes and New York Strips, but tri-tip and top round are also good. It’s best to use steaks about an inch thick.
  • Oil: Olive oil was used. Make sure not to use extra virgin olive oil.
  • Italian seasoning; Italian seasoning has garlic, oregano, and dried pepper, but you can use any seasoning blend you prefer.
  • Salt and pepper: Pepper and salt should be generously used.

The steaks should be brushed with half the oil. Adding salt, pepper, and half of the Italian seasoning will make the seasoning more flavorful.

Depending on how many steaks you have, you may have to do each one separately in the air fryer.

Depending on the temperature, cooking time may vary from 7-9 minutes for medium rare, 10-13 minutes for medium, or 14-15 minutes for well-done. Halfway through the cooking process, flip the steak over.

Cooking Time Air Fryer Steak

Remove the steak from the grill and place it on the chopping board. Cover the steak with foil, but do not seal it. Ensure that the steak has rested for at least five minutes before cutting into it.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Room Temperature First: You will get the best results if your steaks are brought to room temperature before you begin cooking (about 30 minutes).
  • Pat the Steaks Dry: It is important to pat the outside of the steaks dry prior to cooking to create a perfect crust and sear (not a steamed steak).
  • Let Them Rest: This is crucial! If you let your meat rest after cooking, the juices will be reincorporated into the meat.
  • Slice Steak Against the Grain: Tenderizing the meat fibers makes it melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

FAQs

Is there a certain cut of beef that I should use for air-frying steaks?

This recipe can be made with any cut of steak you want, but if you use a thinner cut, your cooking time may vary. Air frying filet mignon turns out beautifully medium-rare when it is cooked for 4 minutes on both sides.

Is it possible to cook steaks in an air fryer?

My 6.8 quart air fryer can accommodate two trimmed strip loin steaks or one large rib eye steak comfortably. There was too much space in the pan for three strip loin steaks, and they got too dark on the sides, especially on the horizontal sides.

You should also avoid flipping your steaks while cooking. In this case, the top and bottom will both look somewhat pale. The top should get a decent color if you keep them on one side, and you might even see some caramelization in places. Considering the benefits, it is worth the effort for me.

Do you have a gluten-free recipe?

Despite the air-frying process, this steak doesn’t contain any gluten ingredients, so you can enjoy it gluten-free.

Is it possible to fry frozen steak in an air fryer?

In addition to cooking frozen steaks in the air fryer, it’s not advised to cook them this way. No matter what method you choose to cook, you should thaw steaks in a bag immersed in cold water (or in the fridge overnight) before cooking them. It is common for frozen meat to be overcooked in some areas and undercooked in others when it has been cooked.
